Proprietors: John and Caroline Whelan

Whelan's has been run by the Whelan family in an unbroken line for almost two hundred years. Built in the 1800's, it was used by the Mercy Nuns for some years as a convent.  Subsequently James Whelan leased the premises from the Beresford Family and ran it as a hotel. James's son Patrick and his wife Bridget purchaed the property in 1932 and continued to run it as a hotel for many years.

Patrick's son James(Jimmy) later took over and ran it as a pub and grocery store for the next 50 years.  On his retirement the pub passed to his son John and wife Caroline. They run the business as a pub and Tea Room.  It is simple, clean, friendly and a great place to stop off. There is a lovely enclosed Beer Garden - a joy on those balmy summer days.
