STRADBALLY
SCOUTS
INTRODUCTION
Ernest Farrell of Dublin was the founder of The Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland.  A Boys scouts group had been formed in England in 1907.  In 1927, CBSI's Executive Committee began to function, although formal permission to set up the Association was given the previous November by Archbishop Byrne of Dublin.

Scounting in Ireland was then nineteen years old, because it was only one year after Baden-Powell had held his famous camp in Brownsea Island in 1907 that patrols and groups of "B.P. Scouts" began to form in this country.

In 1925, the first Unit was founded in Fairview, Dublin and also in the 1925-26 period Fr. Ernest Farrell organised in Greystones, Co. Wicklow, a boys 'Parochial Organisation' which wore a Scouting type of unifrom.

There was a scouting troop in Stradbally from the late 1970's but unfortunately we have no scouts at present but we have a troop of cubs.  The Stradbally cubs were founded in 1989 by Margaret Browne and Marion Fitzgerald who were helped by Karen Flowers and Nina Power.

1991 saw Isobel Kirwan and Rose Power come on board and later Breda Flynn, Helen Dunne and Anne Cunningham became involved.

Cubs meet every Tuesday night at 7.00pm.  Roll call is done and prayer - then games.
There are 4 regional events every year where the Stradbally Cubs meet up with Dungarvan, Abbeyside and Cappoquin cubs.
These are 1. Cub quiz
2. Soccer Blitz.
3. Mother & Cub.
4. Father & Cub.

This year the quiz was held in Abbeyside where Stradbally were in third place.  The soccer blitz was also held in Abbeyside where the cubs had a great day and again came third.
This year we will not be attending the Mother & Cub or father & Cub due to the numbers being small.

COMING EVENTS
A sleep over will be held in April.  As you can imagine no sleep takes place!
In May we hope to go Bowling.
In June we hope to sleep in the tents.
The main event is the Summer Camp.  Last year we went to Kilcully in Cork where a great time was had.  At the moment the leaders are orgainising the camp.  We might go back to Kilcully again.  We leave on a Friday evening and return on Sunday.

AT PRESENT
There are 14 cubs at the moment.  Next year we hope to have more.
